The Right Kind of Isoflavones

Whole soybean vs. soy germ

Soy isoflavones can come from different parts of the soybean, and simply put, not all isoflavones are created equal.

Soybeans contain many different types of isoflavones. A recent review has shown that genistein, the predominant isoflavone form found in Novasoy, is clinically effective in reducing hot flashes.

Extracts that are characteristic of the whole soybean contain much more genistein forms than extracts made from soy germ (a very small part of the soybean) or kudzu (a root). In contrast, soy germ extracts and kudzu have more of the other isoflavones like daidzin and glycitin, which have been shown not to have the same benefits as genistein for hot flash relief.

Because soy isoflavone extracts like Novasoy® have more genistein forms, clinical studies have shown their ability to reduce the frequency and severity of menopausal symptoms like hot flashes. Plus, evidence suggests that soy isoflavones may help promote good cardiovascular health by keeping arteries healthy.
