Menopause Symptoms
Menopause and your life
There’s a reason menopause has been called “the change” or “the curse.” Its
symptoms are numerous, varied, and most certainly, life altering.
Remember, however menopause affects you, it’s the beginning of a brand new
phase of your life. Many women say they’re happier after menopause than at any
other time in their lives, so enjoy it. Think of menopause as the start of
something great—take care of yourself, and lead a healthy, active life for
years to come.
Ranging from intense hot flashes and night sweats to sleeplessness and
irritability, menopause symptoms typically begin around age 51. Estrogen levels
begin declining as early as 30, and the effects are felt for years to come,
beginning most strongly when menses ceases. Menopause starts after 12
continuous months without menstruation although many women will experience hot
flashes during this introductory time.
Both physical and psychological well-being are affected as menopause
progresses, though not every woman experiences every symptom. Some women are
even lucky enough to have virtually no symptoms.
Regardless of how many symptoms you experience and how intense they are,
menopause means a new way of looking at your health and your lifestyle. Keeping fit and healthy inside and out becomes especially important. Women in their 50s and older should pay special attention to getting the proper nutrition and exercise to keep their cardiovascular system and bones healthy for years to come.
